The only writing rule I truly follow is that the story...its title, plot, dialogues...even character names... must feel not overused and powerful to me first. I don’t write just to fill gaps in the plot....If a scene doesnt surprise me, thrill me or make me feel what I want readers to feel.... I rewrite it and work harder. I try to make sure the story feels true and alive... As much as it possible... not just to me, but to the world of the story itself.
I spend time refining sentences, scenes and dialogues and I research deeply, especially if its sci-fi or based on theories.... I also use related background music to get into the right emotional space. For example, I listened to Time from Inception while writing Atmakami.
